Finding Inexpensive Places to Eat in New York City

New York City is one of the largest cities in the world, and with that distinction comes an amazing culinary adventure. You can get any type of food you want, usually at any time of the day or night. With all of the diversity that makes up New York City, you will be hard pressed to find a restaurant that you don’t love. However, that doesn’t mean it will be inexpensive. New York City is also one of the most expensive cities in the world, and that means for food as well.

If you are looking to eat your way through New York City on a budget there are still options for you. If you are there on business you may want to get a hotel room with a mini-refrigerator so that you can pick up one of their world famous pizzas or even a ready-to-eat sandwich at the corner deli. That way, if you have any left over you don’t have to throw it away; you can just keep it fresh in your hotel room. Also, most hotels have a continental breakfast or free breakfast buffet that will allow you to save some money since you won’t have to eat out.

Finding a burger on a budget isn’t that hard to do, so you shouldn’t feel as if you have to eat in your room. The Burger Joint on West 57th Street inside of the Parker Meridian Hotel has reasonable prices, and since it was rated one of the top burgers in the city, you know you will get a great hamburger. It is cash only, so come prepared. If you are into vegetarian dishes instead of meat, you can try The Counter, which is located on First Avenue. With classy dishes and affordable prices, you can get great meals for less than $20 per person for brunch and less than $30 for dinner.

Other restaurants that you may enjoy that are easy on the wallet are:

  • The Dumpling House on Eldridge Street
  • The Tartine on West 11th street ? French food with a young crowd. Be aware, there may be a long line
  • NHA Trang
  • Great New York Noodletown
  • Inoteca on Rivington Street at Ludlow – Great Italian food bar with over 300 choices of wine as well.

Although you may be on a budget, there are so many restaurants that are inexpensive enough that you can stay away from fast food. Many of the locals or even the front desk of your hotel will be able to lead you in the right direction for delicious, inexpensive food. You also may want to save up your money for a treat at a finer establishment one night. After all, it is your vacation, and there are so many fabulous restaurants to choose from.
