Indiana: the Great Outdoors on a Budget

In these days of economic recession, many people will consider going on a vacation budgetary counter-productive: you spend instead of earning, and money is too tight for such. But if you think you deserve a vacation and want one but the wallet is thin, then Indiana is the place to go.

Indiana offers a great variety of outdoor activities you can enjoy with a minimum of fuzz and expense. There are trails to follow and caves to explore; rivers to float, canoe, kayak and fish; museums to visit; scenes and scapes to view; festivals to participate in, and even see Abe Lincoln’s boyhood home. And of course there is the great dining and music to experience, and shops galore to find your heart’s (and wallet’s) delights.

Camping, Fishing, Boating

Campgrounds are plenty at the Spring Mill State Park. From there you can explore the pioneer village that includes a grist mill, a blacksmith shop, a distillery and tavern, to see how our pioneer forefathers lived. There are also numerous caves in the park you can explore, and a timber forest to go hiking or orienteering in.

For kayaking, canoeing and rafting enthusiasts, there is the Blue’s Canoe Livery in Columbus, Indiana. The Driftwood River where the livery is located runs through a wilderness park, so you will most probably see deer, beavers, herons, ospreys, turkeys and other wildlife as you drift along or fish for bass. Overnight camping is also available if you wish to sleep under the stars.

But if fishing is your love and passion, Indiana boasts of largemouth and smallmouth bass, pike and muskellunge fishing. Walleye, crappie, trout (rainbow, brook and brown, mostly), striped bass and bluegill are also fished in Indiana, although the state is not much noted for flyfishing. Guided fishing tours are available, and there are plenty of lakes to go to, some of which are Lake Tippecanoe/James Lake, Lake Webster, Lake Wawasee, Lake Monroe and the Geist, Brookesville and Morse Reservoirs. And then there is fishing Lake Michigan for huge salmon, and smaller rivers for catfish.

Museums of Vintage Cars

Vintage car buffs may, as an example, tour the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum, Auburn, and see the classic cars and the history of their development. The Duesenberg line was one of the famous cars in the early part of the century in terms of luxury and styling. The Raisbeck Engineering Hall of Technology, meanwhile, showcases the technologies still used in cars today, and the Cars of Indiana Gallery houses vintage cars, many not found anywhere else.

Other places of interest about cars are the Auburn Automobile Gallery, Special Interest Automobiles Gallery, Timothy Durham Gallery, Dean Kruse Gallery, and the Deusy Shop for mementos.

An Exciting Children’s Museum

If you are going on your vacation with your children, you will appreciate the Terre Haute Children’s Museum of Science and Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana. Conceptualized to get children excited about science and technology, they accomplished the objective by creating interesting exhibits and giving fun and enjoyable methods of learning. Thus, the museum gets an average 15,000 visitors a year.

So indoors or outdoors, Indiana has a place for you. There is no reason why you can’t go, recession or no. To cut on expenses, avoid the luxurious hotels and go to the field. You’ll be closer to nature, too.

Things You Should Know About Airport Security Rules And How To Get Through It Without Any Hassle

It helps to plan ahead when you’re about to board a plane so you won’t be caught up with tight security issues. Security lines are unavoidable in most airports, and if you intend to get through it fast without holding a line, making things easier for yourself and other passengers, you need to be prepared and know how does the airport security work so you’ll be able to have an easier way to clear security at the airport. These simple guidelines should help:-

It’s good in most cases to have your pocket full, but when in airport security lines, this will cause a delay on your part. So if you have any loose change in your pockets, you should take them out beforehand. That goes the same thing for cell phones and wallets which should be places on the small bins the airport security provides. If you can, carry a small bag so you can place watches, belt buckles bracelets or any other type of jewellery inside before you reach the end of the line so you’ll save some time, since this will surely trigger the alarm scan.

If you’re bringing along light entertainment, a book perhaps, and maybe some light snacks, organize and tidy them up so there’s no mess that will be made in your bags.

In some airports, you are also required to take your shoes off. This might be obvious to some, but it helps to remind you that certain types of shoes can easily be worn on and off. Heavy boots or shoes with laces or zippers will make it harder to take off, thus taking up more of your time. If you have these on anyway, untie or unzip them right before you get in front of the line, as long as you don’t forget to put them back on properly later on (Or you might embarrassingly trip and fall!)

With the TSA’s rules, you must put your liquids, creams or gels in a one quart sized plastic, clear and ziplock type bag. Keep in mind that these items need to be less than 3 ounces or 100ml or less. Don’t spill any liquids in your bags for your sake. Other items which might be medicinal in nature needs to be notified to a screening officer, and in most cases if the items are allowed it’s not counted out of your plastic bag allowance.

Most people don’t give the following much thought, but you can actually have a ‘system’ where you’ll be able to put yourself back together and in orderly fashion if you put the items in the bins that goes through the screening belt it a certain order.

The things that you wear should go in first. Items like your jacket or coat and shoes, along with thing you carry like small bag for example. Since these get through the x-ray out first, you can save time and start putting them on while other belongings are being screened.

Any laptop case or bag that you’re carrying can be put in the bin ahead of the laptop itself. So that you’ll have it ready to slip in the laptop back in after screening.

After reading this, you might still wonder if it’s such a big deal to be prepared when it comes to airport screening checkpoints. The reality is that airports’ reports claim that most lines are held up and cause long lines are the result of people trying to put themselves together after the screening. You would be doing yourself and your fellow travellers a favour by keeping the above tips in mind.

You might not notice it, but who knows; you might even get a friendly nod or smile from the screening guards in acknowledgment of your travel etiquette. They might even consider you an expert in travel regardless of whether you’re a seasoned traveller or not.

Finding Deals on Accommodations for Families

If you are going on any kind of trip or vacation, inevitably you will most likely need to stay in a hotel. Although hotels can often be part of a larger package such as an all-inclusive resort, they may not always be included. Since they are a large part of the overall price of a vacation it is important to find ways to save money on your hotel accommodations.

Children under the age of eighteen now stay for free at many of the hotels around the world, so it is important to mention that you have children and how old they are. As long as they stay in your room with you, chances are you will either get a reduced rate or even a free stay for up to two children per room.

Some hotels cater directly to children, and often offer a special room that has a separate sleeping area for children, so that both children and adults have their own space within the same suite. One hotel that does this is the Nickelodeon Family Suites. They have special children’s activities and every room is equipped with a gaming system such as PlayStation 2.

The Choice Hotels International is another chain that offers accommodations for families that allow children 18 and younger to stay for free. They also offer travel discounts for groups, as well as friends and family of Little Leaguers at 15% off the regular price. You can verify with the website if they are currently offering that deal, as it may be during particular seasons, or just mention it while you are making your reservations.

Another way to find a fantastic rate is through a travel website such as Expedia, Orbitz, or Hotwire. They book rooms in large quantities to allow you to take advantage of discounted rates. Although most offer deals for the children that stay in the room with parents, it is always best to make sure that deal does not only go up to a certain age. Most consider children 18 and under, there are some who only allow children to stay for free up until 13 or 16. Disneyland hotels for example make the cut off a lot younger for children’s rates.

If you are not traveling for enjoyment, rather you are traveling because someone has passed away or is in the hospital, you can check with the local hospital to see if they have deals with nearby hotels that will allow you close proximity to the hospital at a special rate.

No matter what reason you are traveling, you should hardly ever pay full price for children in any hotel. There are many offers through travel agents, websites, and even local visitors center that will allow you to get a discount, even in the best hotels around the world.

Hotel Savings for Families

Sometimes hotel costs are a part of a package. At all-inclusive resorts, they are the backbone of the vacation. A hotel may be an important part of the vacation, or it may just be a place to spend the night. Either way, hotel savings are readily available.

If you have used Holiday Inn before you had the children, you may know that all children stay free. This includes those as old as nineteen, as long as they stay in their parents’ room. You can get this discount by calling the hotel chain directly.

Some Holiday Inns have KidSuites. These hotels are free for kids, plus you can often get good deals on the adult prices. They are special rooms for children that are contained within the parents’ suite. They are often geared to younger children.

One such hotel is their Nickelodeon Family Suites. These suites come with special sleeping quarters for young children. The hotel also has children’s activities. Each room is even equipped with a game system such as PlayStation 2.

For a variety of deals, try Choice Hotels International’s website. There are rooms where kids eighteen and under stay for free. They must be in the room with their parents or grandparents. Also, be aware that they are only free if no additional bedding is required.

This website sometimes offers travel discounts for friends and families of Little Leaguers of fifteen percent off. There is no need to try to prove your status with the team, either. Check the website to make sure the deal is on. Then, you just need to mention it when you make your reservations.

A guarantee for the best rate on the internet is also available through this site. Find the best price you can through Expedia, Orbitz, Priceline, or any other travel pricing site. Then you fill out a form and send it to them. They will match the best price and give you ten percent off.

There are all kinds of accommodations that use this same concept of “kids stay free.” If you do some research on the internet or consult your travel agent, you will find them. There are bed and breakfast inns that have such rates. Even resorts in such luxurious destinations as Hawaii have deals like this.

If you are looking for a hotel near Disneyland with a kids-for-free policy, make sure your child is considered a kid by the hotel. Disneyland has a low cut-off for kids’ rates. So do many of these hotels. A kid is often considered to be only someone between the ages of three and nine.

Sometimes you travel with your kids for reasons that are less than fun. If a family member is in the hospital, you may need to stay at a nearby hotel. In this case, you can call the hospital for information. They may be able to lead you to discounts at hotels in close proximity to the hospital.

In any case, there is no need to pay the full rate for children’s hotel rooms. A little research goes a long way. There are great hotel prices for kids wherever you turn.

You can never imagine the varieties of seafoods and tastes of the dishes until you’ve been to the Mandeville Seafood Festival of Louisiana. There you will be treated to a bewildering array of seafood dishes and the different cooking styles of Louisiana’s citizens, showcasing their talents and resources. And if you get tired of eating, there are also live music, display of arts and crafts, and entertainment for children and the fireworks to round out the festival.

The Sugar Bowl games

Football is one of the top -if not the top-sports in the country, at least in the college level. And when it comes to college football contests, almost nothing beats the Sugar Bowl games. Held at the New Orleans Louisiana Superdome, it is the final battles of college football circuit champions and displays the best players and games state-wide and perhaps nation-wide. The Sugar Bowl games date back to 1935, and considered one of the longest-running sports series, particularly for football.

Louisiana State Fair and Zoo for the family

The Louisiana State Fair is one much-anticipated series of festivities in the state. Various modes of amusement from thrilling rides like the carousel, Ferris wheel, minirides, some whale rides for the intrepid, to foods galore as well as Spongebob and Castlemania will bring full enjoyment to children and parents alike.

On the other hand, the State Fair Zoo displays animals of different species for people to interact with. It aims to familiarize the visitors, especially the children, with the various animals for conservation and environment purposes. There are also the Circus Hollywood featuring acts from Hollywood performers, the Extreme Canine Stunt Dog Show that showcases incredible dog performances, the Giant Alligator and Crocodile Exhibit which is all about the large reptiles, and a few others, including cooking shows, clown show and haunted house tour.

The North American Mardi Gras

It has been dubbed THE CARNIVAL of North America: the New Orleans Mardi Gras. Similar but not identical to that of Rio de Janeiro’s, the New Orleans “Fat Tuesday’ Carnival also features parades, brass bands, colorful buntings, more colorful costumes of revelers, different musical concerts and performances, and the obligatory private and public parties for the nights. The New Orleans Mardi Gras is an old tradition, from the 1780s and Medieval Europe.

Truly, Louisiana is a land of festivals and enjoyment. Go Louisiana and have fun!

How to travel safely as women and students

Unfortunately; women and students particularly young ones are more likely to be involved in a crime against them when travelling in Europe. They also are more likely to have problems and difficulties with certain government officials and possibly trouble with locals. So it is because of this that any women or student traveling through and in Europe should follow a few easy safety tips.

If you’re a student you are travelling to Europe there are some things you should keep in mind when you do travel. Not every person you come across can be trusted, no matter how nice they may seem at first. It pays to be a little wary of everyone you meet who you do not know. This is an important first tip; don’t give out your trust too easily and be a little wary of all people.

It always pays to learn a little of the countries language before you travel; this way if you do get into trouble you can at least understand or speak to people who don’t speak too much English. You will be able to get directions and communicate easier with the people around you. No one is saying you have to be fluent in the language; just learn as much as you can to be safer. Learn particular phrases that you may need such as, where is the police station, where is the hotel, where is the US embassy and such like.

Make sure you are up on all the laws and cultures of the country that you are visiting on your trip. Don’t go overboard with the partying and be respectful of the locals and other tourists. Don’t take drugs and try not to drink so you become drunk; you need to keep hold of your wits when you’re in a foreign country; then you won’t fall victim to crimes against you or become involved I a situation where you end up being arrested by local police.

Never walk out on your own at night; particularly if you’re a women or a young student. Always get licensed taxis if you’re on your own or if you can rent a car and use that instead. Or you could always go out in a large group so you’re never alone.

Always keep what you are carrying well hidden on your body; if your iPod or cell phone is on view; you are making yourself prime for mugging and attacking. Try and hide cash somewhere where they won’t look or won’t have time to look, such as your shoes or stuck to your frame somehow. The less it looks like you have valuables the better as you’re a less likely target. If you do get mugged or attacked; scream for help and run to closest well lit area or lit house for safety and get the police involved immediately.

Discount Tickets to Unusual Places for Children

If there is anything children love, it is new and unusual places that they can travel to when they go on vacation with their parents. It is exciting for them to be able to go home and tell their friends all about it. That is why, if you are going on vacation, you want to plan at least one unusual place that you can take them to.

The problem with unusual spots on vacation is that they are not easily found. That is why you should search the Internet before you leave for vacation so that you can plan ahead. There is a website that is sponsored by Theme Parks Online that lists all the theme parks in the United States ? both traditional and unusual. The information found will include all of the details about the park, the hours and seasons in which they are open, as well as interesting facts that you can relay to your children to get them excited about going.

For example, a theme park that usually gets the children’s attention is Legoland in California. Every child loves legos, and you can experience it first hand at Legoland. The website details all the information regarding the park as well as ticket prices. Another example would be Hershey’s Park in Hershey, Pennsylvania, the “chocolate capital of the world.” At Hershey Park you can take in the numerous amounts of thrill rides and then end the day taking a tour through Chocolate World where your children will learn how chocolate is really made.

In almost every theme park in the United States, children will get in at a discounted price. If you have an AAA card as well you can get another discount of $10.00 per person so that you can really see the savings mount up. Almost every park allows you to buy discounted tickets somewhere, whether it is at the AAA auto club center, the visitor’s center, or even a local grocery store.

For another theme park that will really knock their socks off, you should head to Branson, Missouri. It is becoming increasingly popular for both children and adults. Silver Dollar City is a great destination to bring children to. It is a combination of amusements as well as glass blowing, candle dipping, and rope making which children really seem to take to. Of course there is also modern amusement park rides both at Silver Dollar City, as well as two other parks in Branson. The best deal to save the most money is the City Hopper Pass which can be purchased for all three parks.

Many discounts for both the City Hopper Pass as well as other theme parks can usually found online. Generally, children cost about $10.00 less than adults. The coupons can be printed online or you can find coupons locally as well. Theme parks are not only exciting but depending on the theme park you go to, they can also be unusual which really allow the children to see something new for an affordable rate.

Cheap Tickets to Unusual Places

Children love to be in on the secret, don’t they? Whenever there is something different or uncommon they want to be the first to tell their friends about it. If you can, it’s fun to take time in your vacation to stop at some unusual spots.

Often you don’t even know of any such places to find out about. There is a website sponsored by Theme Parks Online. This site lists theme parks in all the states. If you click on the links you get all kinds of information about each park.

Some of this information details the attractions at the park. Some of it is about park hours and seasons. The information you might find most interesting is the facts about discounts.

For instance, Legoland, in California, is a park with a unique theme. The site explains what the park is all about and what attractions are available. Then, it gives ticket information.

Children always pay less than adults. Adults with AAA cards can get a discount of ten dollars per person per day for their group. The second day or subsequent days are always cheaper than the first day. Look for deals like this at any park.

Hershey’s Park is a place that most people have heard of but fewer people have actually seen. Its theme, unusual for a park, is candy. If you look at the Theme Parks Online website, you will find deals for this park as well.

If you want to get more information, you can go to the Pennsylvania Visitor’s Center, or their tourism bureau to find out more. You can often find unpublished specials by going straight to the source and calling Hershey’s Park itself.

Ordinarily, children go to Hershey’s Park for about half the price as adults. Note, however, that they consider kids to be only those of the ages of three to eight. A nine year old, to them, is an adult.

Branson, Missouri is becoming more popular with many people, especially the older ones. There are things for kids to do there as well. Silver Dollar City is one of these activities.

Silver Dollar City is a combination of amusements. There are demonstrations of all sorts of folk art. There is glass blowing, rope making, and candle dipping, for example. Kids may find these displays fascinating.

They will certainly have fun at the other part of the park. This offers the thrill of the modern amusement park type rides. There are also two other parks in Branson that partner with Silver Dollar City to host a City Hopper Pass.

Kids’ tickets generally cost about ten dollars less than adults’. However, there are discounts to be had by going online. There are also coupons that can be printed. You can print and buy your tickets online as well for further savings.

The supply of novelty theme parks is not quite endless. There are plenty of them, though. The best way to find out about them is to listen to people who have been to them. Then, look for discounted tickets to make your kids’ adventures a little more affordable.

St. Patrick’s Day in Ireland: Legends Galore!

You might have wondered why people often wear something green on St. Patrick’s Day. The fact is that this is part of the traditional celebration of St. Patrick’s Day in Ireland. Another tradition is that on this day you can ask people to kiss you! This day is a time of fun and being just a little bit silly. Below are some things you might want to know about this important Irish celebration.

St. Patrick is believed to have died on March 17th, and this is why that date was chosen as St. Patrick’s Day. The celebration is always held on that date.

Legend has it that St. Patrick drove away all the snakes in Ireland, however the story is just the result of people’s exaggeration. Irish people claim that there are no snakes in their country, however the story is hard to believe.

St. Patrick escaped to Britain from Ireland, and returned a priest after a number of years’ absence.

The first St. Patrick’s parade was actually held in the US (in New York) in 1762, and not in Ireland. This celebration is still a very important one for Americans.

A phrase you will hear often during the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations is ‘Erin go bragh’, which means ‘Ireland forever’.

In Ireland, it is believed that if a person kisses the Blarney stone, then they will receive the ‘gift of the gab’. This is a popular story amongst the Irish, and is therefore part of the annual celebrations for St. Patrick’s Day in Ireland.

The majority of Irish people are Christian, particularly Catholic, however divorce was legalized there in 1995 following a referendum. This desire of the people to legalize divorce is quite surprising given the Christian view of marriage as being a sacred state.

One of the fun activities of St. Patrick’s Day in Ireland is the drinking of green beer. So try some green beer and ask people to kiss you, and have fun! You should also wear some green, or you might find that people pinch you. Don’t forget to observe the religious nature of the occasion, too, however.

There is much to learn about St. Patrick’s Day in Ireland. Have fun joining in with people as they celebrate the occasion, whether you are in Ireland or elsewhere in the world. Wear a touch of green and watch the parade which is the start of the festivities. Be part of the event and enjoy yourself together with all the other people who recognize the importance and fun of this special day.

It’s important not to forget St. Patrick himself on this day, though. Irish people always take a little time to pray and to thank the saint for having brought Christianity to their land. St. Patrick is an important part of Irish history, and thanks to the celebration of St. Patrick’s Day in Ireland, and elsewhere around the world, he will not be forgotten. If you want to know more about St. Patrick or his day, then have a look at the many websites which explain the background and traditions surrounding the occasion.

Cancun’s Beaches – The Beautiful White Sands

In Cancun‘s beaches you can see the magical fish swimming in the clear and pristine waters of the Caribbean, the sand there is so white that the starfish on it tend to blend into it and become translucent. Remember the pictures of paradise settings you have seen in vacation review magazines over the years? Well below are information on some of the top rated beaches in Cancun at its best and how very inviting this is when you are thinking of a holiday destination.

It is interesting to know that the sandy shoreline of Cancun was doubled by the hurricane Wilma in 2005, and after complete restoration the condition of cancun beach area was doubled! Leaving even more area in which to enjoy this magnificent place on earth. As a result some access has been re-routed through hotels and this allows you to transverse from beach to beach very easily.

Throughout the hotel resort zone you will find 14 miles of gently bending coastline around the inland lagoon known as Laguna Nichupte. Can you picture yourself lazing in the sun alongside the ocean? Or maybe taking a jet ski for a spin or maybe even kayaking on the flat, calm waters of the lagoon? A typical past time for people vacationing in Cancun is topless bathing, be sure to check out the local cancun topless beaches if you’re into that sort of thing, but if you are bashful then a short bus ride can take to a more secluded beach for this purpose.

Beaches to explore in Cancun, try Playa Tortugas, from here you can take the ferry across to Isla Mujeres. Here you can go snorkelling and take diving tours or just swim in the warm water or lay in the sun. Playa Tortugas is the major spring break destination for many and is rated alongside Fat Tuesday nightclub.

A good beach trip to take the children to is Playa Caracol; it has a shallow and flat sandy bottom which is ideal for the kids. Opportunities here are endless for exploration and sea shell collecting or looking for starfish, overall a great kid’s beach.

Playa Delfines is just down from the Caesar Hotel and has a large lookout across the sandy shores, a less populated beach away from the crowds, but albeit a very beautiful beach.

A lovely beach for swimming is the Playa Las Palmas, although the entrance is difficult to find, located near the fiesta Americana Coral Hotel in the shape of a small wooden gate proves the search well worth while and a very pleasant wide beach.

Playa Bellenas is a beach that can at times get crowded owing to high popularity stakes. It boasts sweeping views and it is absolutely picture perfect, there are also many activities here and there is shopping and restaurants available as well.

The last stop of the hotel zone is the Punta Nizuc, located as it were at the very tip of the peninsula, some of the world’s best snorkelling happens here and some of the marine life is protected in this area.

At San Miguelto; here you can simply bake in the sun under the shadow of the Mayan ruins and when you have had enough sun, go exploring.

On the outskirts of the city there are a great many other beaches along the shoreline, some are very populated as some are more secluded it is up to you on which ones you choose to visit. The scenery is breathtaking so you can explore many sites at the same time.

One way that you can find discounted airfare for children is through a travel agent. They can buy a block of seats at a reduced fare so that they can sell them to you for less money than the airlines would charge you directly. This way, not only can you get your airline tickets at a discounted price, but you can get your children’s tickets at a reduced price as well. Another way to get discounted airfare for children is through wholesale clubs such as Sam’s Club and Costco. They sometimes offer reduced prices on airline tickets, but you have to really do your research to make sure you are getting the best deal.

Before you decide that airlines just don’t give you the best price, you should call them to see if they can give you any discount at all. If you are taking an emergency trip, they may have emergency fares such as a discounted rate for a death in the family. They also have the ability to give you discounts based on the frequency of your travel, such as if your children frequently go to visit a parent or other relative. You can set them up as recurring flights that will give you a substantial discount.

Most airlines offer free airline tickets for children under the age of two if they sit on your lap, but if you are looking for your infant to have their own seat, Southwest Airlines offers an infant fare available for children under two to sit in their own safety seats. There are also children’s discounted fares for kids aged two through age eleven. Even older children ages 12 through 21 are eligible for a reduced youth rate.

A great place to find discounted airfares is the Internet. You can often find deals if you stay at a hotel along with the airfare. Also, some travel search sites allow you to find discounted rates that specialize in children’s fares. Finally, on the Internet you can find travel companies that offer rebates to certain cities, depending on the program that is available. By going on the websites of travel comparison companies such as Expedia, Orbitz, and Hotwire you are able to search through various packages or airlines to see what the less expensive airfares are for you and your children.

Air travel can be expensive, but it doesn’t have to be completely unaffordable. By taking the time to research the different travel agents, travel websites, and airlines, you can find discounted rates that will allow the entire family to travel by air.

Cutting the Cost of Air Travel for Kids

One of the biggest costs of traveling with kids is paying for their flights. Furthermore, it isn’t always easy to pay the full prices of airline tickets. For this reason, it’s important to find children’s airline tickets at discount prices.

Travel agents can arrange for children’s flights. They buy blocks of tickets at a greatly reduced rate. Then they sell them to individuals at a price that is a markup for them, but quite a discount for you. This way, you can get tickets for the whole family, kids included.

Wholesale clubs, such as Sam’s Club and Costco have sometimes offered good discounts on airline tickets. If you check into this, don’t buy until you explore other options as well. These are sometimes good ticket prices and sometimes they are not.

Calling the airline directly can sometimes get you a discount. This is especially true if the travel is of an emergency nature. If there is a death in the family, the airline might offer discounted tickets for grieving families.

Another way airlines can help you is to set up your child with recurring flights. These may be useful for regular visits to relatives such as non-custodial parents. The advantage of setting these up in a series is that the deal often comes with deep discounts.

Southwest Airlines offers savings on children’s flights. The best way to arrange these is to speak to the Southwest Airlines reservations desk directly. These fares may not be available on the airline’s website.

Southwest has infant fares for babies from fourteen days to under two years. If they sit on a lap, they can ride for free. If they’re in a safety seat, they will get the special infant rate.

Infants, as well as all children, must be verified as to age. This is done by Southwest’s procedures involving identification. There are child’s fares for children of the ages of two to eleven. Older children, of the ages of twelve through twenty-one, qualify for the reduced youth rate.

There are also special deals to be found on the internet. As a matter of fact, Southwest offers deals such as one where kids fly for five dollars with a Disneyland resort package. Some vacation sites offer discounts to kids of up to fifty percent off for destinations such as Hawaii and Mexico. It’s just a matter of looking up discount travel for kids.

Some travel companies offer rebates. Watch for these, as you can get back as much as $250 on a child’s travel to certain cities. It all depends on the program available. It also varies with the retail price of your child’s ticket.

Travel search sites on the internet can provide an easy way to find discount tickets. The usual sites are those such as Expedia, Orbitz, and Priceline, to name a few. These offer different deals for kids and others on airline tickets.

Other sites, which may turn out to be even better, compare all the airfares for a given itinerary. You are given the options from cheapest to the most expensive. American Airlines often runs specials to get themselves on the top of this list for CheapTickets.

Air travel is always expensive. Bringing kids on a vacation simply adds more seats to be paid for. If their seats can be had for a discounted rate, the vacation or visit can take on more importance than the flight.

Fly Standby Tickets; How to Save Money on your Flights

There may be times that you need to fly at the very last minute; if this is the case then if you buy fly standby tickets you could potentially save a lot of money. It doesn’t have to be last minute either; if your planning a holiday or you have a meeting a week or so time; then fly standby tickets again could save you a small fortune; but it’s worth bearing in mind that you might not get that fly standby ticket that you need; so this can be a risky method.

Carry on reading to find out exactly how to fly standby effectively.

When your using fly standby tickets you get those said fly standby tickets through the airline; you book them on a flight that day that is already full; so you are basically waiting for someone to either not turn up or a cancellation on that flight. You are not always guaranteed to get onto the flight right away and you may have a long wait ahead so go prepared! So the basic rule of thumb where fly standby tickets are concerned and how to fly standby is to get to the airport and wait till you get there to buy your tickets.

Generally the longer you have to wait for your fly standby tickets to come into effect the less they will cost you in the long run; the earlier you get the fly standby tickets seat on the flight then the more you will have to pay. When you think about it you may save a lot of money by waiting; but are you losing money in other ways by being at the airport? Shops, food, phone calls and the general boredom of waiting for what can be days on end can offset the price you are paying for the fly standby tickets.

If you need to be at a meeting or a family event; or anywhere that requires you to be there on a certain day, time and place; then fly standby tickets are not really for you; as there is no definite guarantee that you will make it on time!

Not all airlines allow fly standby tickets to the general public and only allow those fly standby tickets to go to employees, friend and family. The other airlines that do let you have fly standby tickets will give first priority to the employees, friends and family members before you get the chance; so even if a seat comes up; you may still be in for a long wait until you get to the top of the list.

By purchasing fly standby tickets; you can save a heck of a lot of money; but seeing as though you may be in for a long and tiring wait; you may be better just going for a normal flight or becoming part of a frequent flyers program.

This Year’s Top Spring Destinations

There are lots of places in the world which are considered to be top spring destinations, but the best of these is Cancun. The United States’ economic crisis has caused many people to travel to Panama City, South Padre or Miami for a relaxing vacation, rather than going to the more crowded Europe.

Cancun is like paradise, and attracts many return visitors. There are stunning beaches here as well as great night clubs. It is also a popular spot for students, and the best places are easily accessible by bus or ferry. Xel-Ha is an excellent choice if you enjoy snorkeling, or for peaceful and romantic beaches and old ruins, how about Tulum. Cancun is surely a top spring destination for anyone who has a passport.

Other top choices for white sandy beaches and clear blue waters are the Bahamas and Jamaica. If you enjoy swimming and sunbathing, you will find great places to do these here. For the budget conscious, there are reasonably priced cruises available. Negril is the choice for those who want peace and quiet, or Jamaica if you prefer water sports and night life.

Puerto Vallarta is the top choice for terrific night life as well as getting to know friendly people, and there are also great deals on accommodation to be found here. If you like adventure and action, how about some parasailing or mountain biking? Another choice for those who enjoy parties is Mazatlan, which is an especially good option if you don’t have a passport.

Perhaps you enjoy snow sports instead, in which case how about heading for North America’s ski resorts? The snow can be excellent during the spring, but you need to be careful of the high resort prices as well as the cost of lift tickets. There are some quieter spots to be found, however, especially if you want a romantic getaway.

Top spring destinations for many are to be found in Europe, especially Berlin, Frankfurt, Florence, Madrid, Rome, Amsterdam, London and of course Paris. These cities are cool at this time of year, so socializing is mainly indoors. The great thing about visiting here in spring, however, is that there is less crowding.

Puerto Rico’s Rosario Beach is a good choice for last minute decisions or people who don’t have a passport. It is a beautiful beach, and enjoys good weather in springtime. There are also plenty of clubs to enjoy the night life, though for the under 18s be aware that the drinking age is 18.

Acapulco in Mexico is a city right on the beach, and another top spring destination. For a quiet vacation away from it all, how about Playa Pie de la Cuesta. La Condesa is a better choice if you prefer to be part of a crowd. There are plenty of hotels to choose from, and Puerto Marques is worth a visit.

So, check out the various options for top spring destinations and enjoy your vacation!
