You may have your vacation or travel plans to Europe booked and you are ready to go; however to fully enjoy your European holiday, you need to make sure you have clothes to suit the climate your going into. The weather when in Europe is generally more stable and easy to plan for then when you’re in the US. Mainly as the winters are not as bitterly cold as they are in the States and the summers are nowhere nearly as hot. You will still need to dress accordingly and take the right items to really get the best out of your holiday.
If you’re planning on going in the summer, then you will need some warm clothing to wear on the evenings as they can get quite cold at times. Even the days in the summer can be chilly so it’s always best to have a jumper and some jeans to wear just in case. You may have a really great holiday in the summer and have nothing but clear blue skies where the sun shines all day. If this is the case (and you won’t know until you get there); take some cooler clothes and a few pairs of shorts and some cool shirts/t-shirts.
Days in Europe can be quite rainy at times; so make sure you take some clothing that is either waterproof or that can dry easily. Europe has less rainfall usually than the States; but rain showers in the summer can be common in Europe so just take some clothing to suit this just in case. An umbrella may be required as well; or you could buy one when you get there, that way you don’t have to pack it and take room up in your cases.
In Europe the winter days are shorter than in the summer so warm clothing will be needed because of this and in the summer as the days are longer and generally warmer; cooler clothes are going to be needed instead. The sun sets quite late when its summer so if you like to go to bed quite early then either book a hotel that has lined curtains or take an eye mask to sleep in so your sleep doesn’t get disturbed.
The best and easiest way to check what clothing you will more than likely need is to check weather forecasts on the internet. These are easily found and you can specify whereabouts in Europe you will be and see what the weather forecast is. Check the weather on the day of your flight if you can; this way you can dress appropriately for the flight and when you arrive at your destination.
If you are travelling around Europe for a while then it can be difficult to estimate what the weather is going to be like. You could always check the year before weather forecast to see what the weather was like at the time of your holiday. This can be useful but it is not always set in stone as weather is constantly changing. You may have the use of the internet in your hotel or hostel, so if you can check there online and see what the weather is like in your next destination.
Try to take at least one or two outfits for every weather eventuality. This way you will be prepared whether rain or shine!
