Currency when travelling to Europe

You may think that changing your US dollars for your European holiday is an easy enough task; but before you start there are a few things to consider first. You need to get yourself up to date with the rates of exchange for the currency, how to perform safe currency exchanges and how to avoid the possibility of being part of a scam before you start to exchange your money.

Don’t just use your credit card when you’re traveling in European countries. This is simply because some places may accept your credit cards and other may not. You don’t want to be left not being able to pay somewhere because you haven’t got any cash on you. Always have some cash safely hidden somewhere before you travel to any European country.

Also; being up on the exchange rates is also a good starting point for your vacation in Europe. This will let you know how much cash you will need to have exchanged before you travel, this way you’re safe in the knowledge that you have enough cash to pay for any eventuality that may occur.

The majority of European countries use the Euro as their standard currency so this may make it easier when traveling to different countries. The US dollar usually has less strength when compared with the Euro and you will also have to pay some amount of commission on your exchanges; so make sure you have everything covered and take the exchange rate into consideration and also calculate the fees needed as well.

Where you decide to exchange your money once on holiday can be an important factor in price and commission. You can usually have your money exchanged in hotels and in the airports. If you decide to go down this route; you will end up paying more for your money as they charge higher rates of commission. The best place to conduct safe exchanges of your money is in banks and also in the official exchange bureaus. If you have the time and the facilities; shop around before you exchange your money. You may get a better price for your dollar that way.

Wherever you decide to exchange your money, always get the information of how they came to that fixed amount. Ask the cashiers to show you their calculations and any paper work that you can have would be beneficial. This way you can be sure you are getting exactly what you should be and you are not being scammed.

Don’t exchange large amounts of cash at any one time as there may be people watching to see how much money people have, then they may be waiting for outside of the place where you were. Always exchange your money in safe and reputable places such as banks and bureaus.

Another good reason to not exchange all of your money when you get there and why not to exchange large amounts at any one time; is because if you have any leftover you will not get as much back. Only exchange the money as you need it, that way you will still have your dollars in tact when you go back home.
