Lose Yourself In The Beauty of Zion National Park

There is nothing quite as breathtaking as natural wonders and that is what Zion National Park is all about. It is filled with natural landmarks for you to enjoy. It may not be as famous as the Grand Canyon or even Bryce Canyon but it is worth seeing just the same.

As you arrive, if you happen to take the scenic drive on the Zion-Mt. Carmel Highway, you can see fantastic views of canyon. You can see the Great Arch of Zion among other things. There is a vehicle size limit to keep in mind while heading here so if what you’re driving is too big you need to pay a fee to have a ranger escort you.

This is a park that is great for people who enjoy hiking. Much of the park can only be enjoyed by foot. Car travel can be difficult and is impossible certain times of the year and in different parts of the park. There are shuttles which will take you to all of the more famous sites in Zion.

Towering high cliffs surround the park and you will see gigantic rocks that stick out of the side of these cliffs. The cliffs change color before your eyes because of the way the sun shines on the different rock layers. It is magnificent. Virgin River runs through the park as it continues its path and cuts out more of the canyon.

If you prefer to stay in town instead of on park grounds you can take a shuttle from town to Zion National Park. Then you just need to transfer to the shuttle that takes you throughout the park. Hike the trail on Weeping Rock or start from the Temple of Sinawava. The shuttle will take you to both places but this depends on what time of the year you’re going.

The Canyon overlook trail

Most people who come here would hike the local trails and it is just a small hike to see the river as it continues through the canyon. One of the easier trails that are popular with most folks is The Canyon overlook trail which is used by a lot of hikers. The hike can be done in about an hour going to the viewpoint and back so if you’re a beginner this is perfect for you.

The Canyon overlook trail starts east right at the entrance of the Zion-Mt Carmel Tunnel. There is not a lot of parking space available here so count yourself lucky if you manage to find one. Once you get to the trail end the viewpoint is amazing! There’s a plaque here to help you recognize some of the famous peaks. The area has fences along it so it’s safe for young children to go on the trail but one still has to be careful as there are drop offs at various points. Even though the hike is an easy one and will only take you to elevated heights of 163 feet you still get a great view of the park.

Zion narrows

For a more challenging hike try hiking the Zion narrows which is one of the best hikes in Zion Canyon and a worthwhile backpacking trip. The distance of the hike is about 17 miles and you will be hiking in the river for a large portion of this hike and at times short swims are necessary at certain points. The current is strong and there is the possibility of being pulled off your feet. There are no clear trails except at the beginning and end of the trail as mostly it involves hiking in the Virgin River itself so appropriate water proof shoes are a must. During the summer months the river can even get knee deep.

This is a hike that not everyone will want to make. Your best bet is to check with the Visitors Center before going. They can tell you what the hike is like so you know what to expect. Always check the Weather Report to make sure there is no rain on the way. The area you will be hiking is noted for flash flooding.

There are limited permits (80) given in day so it’s best to get one prior to the day you’re hiking and not on the day itself. There are a couple of ways to hike the Zion Narrows. You can choose the easy trail if you don’t have a lot of time – take the shuttle bus and go to the Temple of Sinawava and start the trail there. This way a permit is not needed but you can only go up to Big Springs. The journey should take 8 miles going up and back down. The more strenuous way is to take a day or overnight hike which starts in Chamberlain’s Ranch going to Zion Canyon. A permit is required for this one.

Angel’s landing

This place is one of the most notable landmarks in the area though it is not for someone who has a fear of heights. The hike starts at the Grotto Trailhead and the distance is only 5 miles but it’s a strenuous uphill hike. No permit is required on this one. People who are acrophobic should keep in mind that the last part of the trail is narrow with steep drop-offs that are visible where you’re hiking. This is a hike not to be taken lightly and small children should not go on. Having said that, for those who dare brave the trail you will be rewarded with a view that is amazing and incomparable to any other view you’ve seen before.

You will definitely be glad you went hiking here. It will leave you with fond memories of Zion National Park. There is plenty of hiking available in this park and you will love all the surprises you will see on your hikes. For all the trails in Zion Nation Park visit http://www.zionnational-park.com/hiking-zion-national-park.htm

There are places to stay in the park as well as in the town that is close by. There is nothing but beauty in this park. If heights are not a problem for you then try some rock climbing. There is plenty of that if you’re up to the challenge!

Hike Through Amazing Scenery at Bryce Canyon National Park

If you read reviews about interesting places to hike and camp, you may see one name appearing time and time again. Bryce Canyon National Park is located in Utah and is home to some of the most breathtaking natural scenery of any park in the United States. The combination of stunning scenery and the size make this park a perennial favorite with backpackers, campers and individuals who simply want to take in the beauty of nature while on foot or on horseback.

There is one feature that makes Bryce Canyon Natural Park a return destination for so many people. The park is home to hoodoos. These are spires of rock that jut up into the sky from the surrounding bedrock or basin around them. They occur when there are layers of harder rock on top of softer stone. Water will slowly erode the rock over thousands and millions of years. When the rock underneath a harder surface layer wears away, hoodoos are formed.

Some hoodoos might be quite thick while others may be very slender. The hoodoos in the park are also colored a variety of different hues. The end result is that you are walking through a fairly land or alien landscape while hiking through Bryce Canyon National Park. Of course, hoodoos are not the only areas of interest that people come to see.

There are many different colored cliffs and look out points where you can take in the scenery all at once. The recommended path begins at Rainbow Point which is located in the southern end of the park. From there, the suggested route is to travel to Yovimpa Point Overlook. This gives you a look at the many colors of rock that make up the canyon.

Bryce Canyon Horse Riding

The park allows individuals to ride horses throughout the canyon. There are two different tours available. One takes two hours to complete and the other, four. Mules are also available if you are not interested in riding a horse. By riding a horse you can enjoy the scenery at your leisure without worrying about the rigors of hiking.

For the horse trail rides, there are several you could choose from. One is the more popularly known Bryce Canyon tours by the Canyon Trail Rides group which conducts two trails, one which lasts for two hours and the other last longer for about 3 to 3 and a half hours. These rides will cover a lot more sights for you to see than walking obviously and it’s perfectly safe and you are guided by experienced cowboys that have been handling and training the horses for years. No prior experience is necessary but they will ask you if you are so they can saddle you up with a horse that is suited towards your level. If you’re bringing children with you they have to be above 7 years of age to go on the 2 hour horse ride and at least 10 years old for the longer trail. There is also a weight limit of no more than 220 pounds for any rider.

The Bryce Canyon Trail Rides will take you deep into Bryce Canyon and you will be able to see a lot of breath taking views along the way so this is one place you would not want to forget your camera!

Bryce Canyon Hiking Trails

If, however, hiking is something you enjoy it is also a fantastic way to see the park. You have two main options. Novice hikers or those individuals who want a more relaxing trek may want to try the Rim Trail. This is an 11 mile long trail but as it does not go down into the canyon it is considered to be less strenuous than hiking the trails into the park’s interior. If you are feeling adventurous, have plenty of water and are wearing a good pair of hiking shoes you may want to try walking the Fairyland and Peek-A-Boo trails (which are called loops). These allow you to walk down and see the hoodoos from the base which is a unique perspective. Be prepared to share your trail with horses if you are hiking the Peek-A-Boo loop. Horses do have the right of way on this trail which is something to keep in mind.

Getting to Bryce Canyon National Park is not difficult and the park is open year-round. Travelers can reach the park from Las Vegas, Nevada or Salt Lake City, Utah. Either city is located about the same distance from the park. You should expect to travel approximately 270 miles (435 km) from either Las Vegas or Salt Lake City in order to reach the park.

Bryce Canyon National Park Lodging

If you are traveling from Salt Lake City or Las Vegas you may want more time to stop and enjoy the park. In this case, you may want to book accommodations at Bryce Canyon Lodge. This is a hotel that is located on the rim of the park.

If you do decide to stay here you won’t be disappointed as there are a variety of other activities that you can do while staying there that you would want to stay a whole week. Things like walking along the rim of Bryce Canyon and taking a horse tour trail ride into the canyon is to be expected and worth the trip itself. But there are also other activities like full moon hikes, cross country skiing, (which could only be done in winter) geology hikes and even astronomy programs where you get to enjoy the stars like no place else on the planet. Fancy yourself being a science nerd? Well the ranger here will educate you to your heart’s content on the geological history of Bryce Canyon on the geological hike. If you’re travelling with a family, there are family specific programs for parents and their kids available as well at the lodge.

You can also opt to stay at Bryce Country Cabins. You’ll be feeling the great outdoors soon enough with this place as you can feed the chickens and collect the eggs yourself. Have a barbeque or eat out at the nearby restaurants. There are also alternative hiking trails to enjoy the spectacle that Bryce Canyon offers that are close to the cabin.

If you want another choice of place to stay, you can head on over to Ruby’s Inn which offers the comforts of hotel rooms, the fun of camping and rv spots all in one place. They even have their own restaurant which serves great foods and a store so if you forget to pack something you don’t have to worry because you can buy it from here. There are also spas and a swimming pool for the guests that want to relax after a day of adventuring. One thing to note is that they also have ATV routes and if you enjoy this activity, you’ll be pleased to know that the routes are just near the hotel itself. You’ll enjoy your stay so much you might even want to go on a plane or helicopter ride around the canyon! This would satisfy thrill seekers for sure!

Tour the Boston Freedom Trail

The Boston Freedom Trail can be covered in a few hours or you can spend the entire day on this trail. Boston is a city full of history and one of the biggest historical areas is the freedom trail which has 16 interesting and important places that affected American history. The walking trail is over two miles long. You can walk this trail and stop at the many historical sites along the way. If walking is too difficult there are also trolleys that will take you to the many sights along the Freedom Trail.

The Freedom Trail was the brilliant idea of William Schofield. There is a red line that marks the areas that consists of the Freedom Trail that visitors can follow. As visitors walk the trail, they will learn and appreciate the great effort it took for the colonists to gain independence. For first time visitors, you can get a map of the whole area from the Visitor Center on State Street, or if you prefer, download and print it from the following site at http://www.thefreedomtrail.org/maps/maps.html

It is possible to walk the trail in about three hours. This doesn’t give you the time that is needed to explore the historical sites along the trail. For that you are going to want to plan on spending an entire day.

The Boston Freedom Trail starts at the Boston Commons. This park is the oldest in the entire United States dating back to 1634. In fact, some might argue that it’s the oldest public park in the world considering it was developed before the openings of the first public parks in England which many claim are the first parks. The British troops used the common to camp before going off to fight in Lexington and Concord. Other interesting facts to note is the place wasn’t always a park, it was also used for public hangings, and some notable persons were hanged from a great oak tree, which is no longer around. The public park was also once used for raising cattle but it was eventually banned because of overgrazing after a short period of time. There are also the burial grounds, where many people who died from the Battle of Bunker Hill are buried. In modern times, the park has been the place that saw protests, speeches by various well known public speakers like Martin Luther King and also concert gatherings.

The next place to visit along the Freedom Trail is the Massachusetts State House. This is probably one of the newer buildings along the trail. It was built in 1798 and sits on Beacon Hill. The land is originally owned by John Hancock who used it for cow pastures. Charles Bullfinch, an architect would later design the building that would be known as the State House which is the current offices for the governor of Massachusetts. The more distinctive part of the building is the gilded dome of the building which was done over a copper laid over the top by Paul Revere.

The old town granary which is located in Tremont Street has become a cemetery for the infamous such as John Hancock, James Curtis, Robert Treat Paine, Samuel Adams and many others. The name of the granary is the Granary Burying Ground. It was founded in 1660. The Park Street Church sits across from the granary. For those who don’t already know, three of the names mentioned above were the signers of the Declaration of Independence.

King’s Chapel was built at the request of King James II. He wanted a church in Boston that would represent the Church of England. The church is built on the oldest cemetery in Boston. The first woman to set foot outside the Mayflower is buried here.

At the First Public School you will find a statue of Benjamin Franklin. He attended this school as did John Hancock and Samuel Adams. There is even an old book store that published such works as the “Scarlet Letter”.

In 1773 over 5000 colonists gathered at the Old South Meeting House. This is where the Boston Tea Party started. The British government wanted to start taxing the colonists. The colonists decided this was not going to happen. That is how the Boston Tea Party started and why it started. It was all over taxing the tea and other products.

Next we have the The Old State House building , which was used by the British during the revolutionary war, it is where the Declaration of Independence was read on July 18, 1776. Many Boston citizens gathered to hear the reading. There is a marker made of cobblestones that marks the place of the Boston Massacre.

Paul Revere lived in the oldest building of downtown Boston. The Paul Revere House was occupied by Revere from 1770 to 1800.

The oldest church in Boston is where the lanterns were hung to tell of the approaching British. The name of the church is the Old North Church. This is located on the Boston Freedom Trail.

The USS Constitution is housed in the oldest shipyard in the US. This ship is the oldest warship in the world.

The last site on the Freedom Trail is where the first battle of the Revolutionary War. The Bunker Hill Monument marks this spot.

To really enjoy the Freedom Trail, one should walk it. A good tour to go to is The Boston Walking Tour. It will take most of the day if you stop at the many sites located on the trail. There are also tours available where you ride a trolley so if you don’t want to walk the trail you don’t have to.

Interesting Facts To Know When Hiking In The Grand Canyon

Standing on the rim of the Grand Canyon can be a great way to get an idea of exactly how large this natural wonder of the world is. There are many places where you can stand and gaze out over the canyon and look down to see the river running far below you. Tourists come to this area in droves and stand looking out at the rock formations and the other things that make this area so special.

If, however, you want to be able to get a feel for the canyon it is not enough to stand at the top and peek down. You need to be one of the brave souls that choose to hike Grand Canyon trails. Some people choose to hike right down to the canyon floor and others choose to only go part way down.

Day hikes will only take you part of the way down when you are hiking on Grand Canyon trails. Getting all the way down to the bottom takes so long that you would not be able to get back up before it became too dark to see the trails. If you are interested in a trip part way down the canyon you will want to use either the Bright Angel trail or the South Kaibab trail. You can choose to walk for three to four hours and this will really give you a feel for the canyon’s geography.

If you are a geology buff, you will love the fact that the trails are marked with a series of signs that tell you how old the rocks you are seeing are. The Colorado River took millions of years to carve its way down as far as it has. It is possible to see rocks that are millions of years old that you would likely be unable to see anywhere else.

You may want to call ahead and book a room at the Phantom Ranch if hiking in Grand Canyon means getting all the way down to the bottom. This is a popular place to stay. It is recommended that you do make reservations otherwise you may find that there are no rooms available. They often book up well in advance and if you do not have a back country permit you will be unable to camp on the floor of the canyon.

If you are hiking down and plan to camp on the canyon floor you may want to check out the Phantom Ranch canteen. This offers some food and beverages for you to purchase but you should make sure that you have your own supplies as well. You may not be able to count on the canteen for all of your needs while you are camping on the canyon floor. The camp grounds on the floor of the cabin do have water and toilets for you to use when camping there. Camping outside of the designated areas is forbidden. This is to protect the fragile ecosystem that has built up on the floor of the canyon. Camping permits can be ordered in advance and it is recommended that you do order them ahead of time. This is because the park rangers will only make a limited number of permits available each day.

You may want to try hiking on more than one trail. One popular route is to descend on the Bright Angel trail and then hike back out on the South Kaibab trail. This will let you see a lot of the canyon without the difficulty of a hike down to the canyon floor and back out. You need to remember that while it may seem easy going down it is not as easy climbing back out.

When hiking you need to make sure that you bring sunscreen and plenty of water. You also want to dress in layers as there is a temperature difference between the rim and the canyon floor.

If you don’t want to hike but you want to see the bottom of the canyon you may want to book a mule ride instead. These spend the night at Phantom Ranch. It can be a fun and less taxing way for you to view this natural marvel.

How To Get The Most Enjoyment From Your Grand Canyon Mule Rides

The Grand Canyon truly is one of the natural wonders of the world. This deep crevasse in the surface of the earth makes for some amazing scenery. While many people choose to simply stay at the rim for a few minutes other brave souls may decide to hike down to the bottom. For individuals who want to be able to descend to the floor of the canyon but who do not want to walk, taking a mule trip can be an excellent compromise.

There is a definite reason why mules are the vehicle of choice for anyone descending into the canyon. They are incredibly sure footed on the treacherous and winding trails that are the only way to penetrate the heart of the canyon. Mules are often larger than horses which can be an issue for some individuals if they are shorter than average. They are also able to carry quite a bit of weight and so will not find it difficult to carry you down the mountain trails.

Before you begin, there are a few things that the tour operators will check out. The first is your weight. The mules will only be able to carry you if you weigh less than 200 lbs or 91 kgs. Height is also an issue. Because the mules are so tall, only individuals who are taller than 4’7” or 1.38 meters) will be able to ride on the mules. Because the warnings and instructions that the wranglers give you are so important, they will not allow anyone who does not speak English to go on the mule tour to the base of the canyon.

There are a few things that you do need to remember. The first is that you will be riding steadily for six to seven hours. If you have time before you leave for your trip, spending a little time in the saddle now can help save you from stiff or sore muscles later. Unfortunately, many inexperienced riders have discovered that they are too tired and sore to enjoy camping or staying at the foot of the canyon because they have found the ride to be so taxing.

The next thing that needs to be remembered is that a mule trip down the canyon will mean riding on the outer edge of the trails. You will have a rock wall on one side and a steep, sheer drop on the other side. This is not something that would appeal to everyone. It can be disconcerting especially when you meet hikers who are hugging the rock wall and you are set out at the extreme edge of the trail.

You need to decide what you want to do while you are on the canyon floor. Some individuals want to try and camp out. Others want an experience that is somewhat less rustic. These individuals are able to stay at the Phantom Ranch, the only lodging that is situated on the floor of the canyon. Individuals can choose from dormitory style rooms or rustic cabins to sleep in.

If you want to try this amazing experience it is important that you book well in advance. Many people want to see this wonder of the natural world and so tours can be booked up well in advance, especially during the height of tourist season.

Discover San Antonio In Texas

Not every tourist’s attraction is in the big cities. For a taste of Mexican, Native American and southern culture, head on over to San Antonio and experience something unique those big cities like New York or San Francisco can’t offer.

Historically one of America’s oldest cities, San Antonio was first colonized by Spain in the early 1700’s. A visit there would not be complete if you didn’t visit it’s most famous tourist attraction…which is the Alamo. History buffs would remember it as the place of an epic battle during the Texas Revolution in 1836.

The Alamo is actually quite small since it was built as a mission rather than a fort. Remember Davey Crockett and Jim Bowie? Well a walk here should give you a feel of the battle that they fought there all those years ago. The place is near the River Walk, right in the heart of town.

There are four more missions aside the Alamo if you’re interested. There is a Bike and Hike Trail for the other four missions if you visit the San Antonio Missions National Historic Park. Further downtown is The River Walk. Here along the river there are various restaurants, museums and historical sites for the leisure seeking traveller. The River Walk (also known as Paseo Del Rio) has a river cruise you could take; this cruise lasts for a couple of miles and you can have a tour guide giving you more detailed information of the surrounding location.

You can also find the historic district of La Villita along the banks of the river. This site has its significance in history in that it was the place the Mexican army surrendered and gave Texas its independence back in 1835. Originally built by Spanish soldiers, the historic buildings have now been turned into tourists’ attractions for arts and craft. There are even restaurants in the surrounding area. It is interesting to know that the following year in 1836 the Battle of the Alamo occurred there.

Got a taste for Mexico? Head on over to the Historic Market Square downtown, there are all kinds of trinkets and colourful jewellery, real Mexican necklaces and earrings which are handmade, and also belts and buckles. You will hear the sound of mariachis as you relax by the nearby fountain, satisfy your sweet tooth with Mexican candies and even stuff them in a piñata.

A walk has never been as fun by walking the streets of San Antonio. Barbeque lovers will have their taste buds in for a treat with the great combination of Texan and Mexican food here. If you’re looking for great food while being able to explore a rich history, San Antonio is the place to go.

Top Georgia Destinations: A Sneak Peek AT Top Georgia Attractions

Ever since Georgia hosted the Olympic Games in 1996, Georgia’s attractions became well-known around the world and not surprisingly, the state has become one of the top tourist destinations. Folks simply love the year-round calm balmy weather that induces total relaxation, most especially in the nights of spring and fall. During the day, the colors of fall and the new greens of spring, while ruffled by the gentle breezes, project a universe of change and renewal, and thus of hope for a tomorrow.

But aside from the weather’s effect, there are several very interesting places in Georgia you may want to visit, along with the kids especially; they will undoubtedly enjoy the excursion. Top places in the itinerary should include the Georgia aquarium, the Coca-Cola plant, the mountains and the theme park. It can be an exhausting but nevertheless an exhilarating voyage of discovery for the children and most probably the adults, too.

Taking a look at Some of the Top Georgia Destinations

* First stop is the Georgia Aquarium. Built several years back, it offers a plethora of underwater scenes and views of various fishes in their simulated habitat. So many people from other states or countries tour the aquarium —it being the largest aquarium in the world today— that it is best to go there weekdays, when there are relatively fewer number of visitors. The Georgia Aquarium is probably the only place in the country where you can see the largest number of fishes without getting yourself wet!

* Next to the Aquarium is the Coca-cola Museum, and often Coke gives the visitor a free taste of its products. If you like soda pops, you can have a drop of Coke right at the Museum while unraveling the history of the development of Coca-cola and Coke, which can also be a nostalgic trip down the days past.

* If you love spectacular vistas you can drive up the Georgia mountains. Go to Mt. Helen, shop and dine in fine restaurants there, including the famous, evilly delicious fudge. A trip to Mt. Helen with the popular fudge will be something to remember. Or, if it is summer, you can get into a tube and float down Chattahooche River, exploring its wilderness scenes while bumping about the waves. It can be revealing from a fish’s point of view.

* Afterwards you can hike all the way up Stone Mountain, famous for its granite rocks and beautiful park. You can explore them, then wait for nightfall to see from the mountain’s roads the laser show. You can’t miss the Stone Mountain: it can be seen from many places in Atlanta, Georgia. Alternatively, Savannah is a historic city filled with museums, old houses, great restaurants, and beautiful beaches.

* Lastly, there is Six Flags, a contemporary theme park. If you love wild rides, Six Flags is the place to go to; if you prefer tamer ones and great shows, Six Flags is still the place to visit. Either way, one day at Six Flags may not be enough to savor all it can offer.

Tourists in their millions visit Georgia every year, mostly for its comforting weather, random snippets of history, spectacular highland views and superb dining. But there are others reasons besides, and at least one of them may be yours to discover.

Top Georgia Destinations- Georgia is Also for Kids

Among the millions of tourists that flock to Georgia each year are entire families, complete with children and parents. They come because Georgia offers a hundred and one ways to let the kids enjoy the day, from riding wild rides at the theme park, to exploring the eerie cemeteries; from understanding its history, to kayaking the river estuaries. Savannah Gardens, one of the top Georgia destinations, can offer an educational, exhausting, adventurous and exhilarating day for children as well as parents.

A day tour of the city can, first, be arranged just to get the feel of the place. There are the architectural wonders and landmarks of history to see, the cobblestoned streets to clatter on, the carriage tour and the trolley rides to enjoy. More than 50 tour operators are ready to offer you their services, all of them reliable and experienced. Don’t forget to include the Savannah Gardens in your itinerary: it is a semi-wilderness for children to explore and wonder at. Don’t leave them alone for too long, though.

Then a river tour aboard an authentic riverboat can give you and your children a taste of the old times when steam was king, as well as show you the coastal views of the city. Alternatively, kayaks are available for exploring the coasts and estuarine areas. Perhaps you can even troll a line or two while exploring, or maybe cast a few lures to likely places, if you love the piscatorial pursuits, so to speak. Savannah, Georgia is a fine place for passing on the fishing tradition.

Meanwhile, antique shops and galleries abound in Savannah containing different items for children to gawk at as part of their education. Maybe some can also be bought as mementoes of the trip, and the children will definitely treasure them. Gallivanting among the antique stores will also introduce you to the historic squares of the city, and each has its fascinating story to tell. If you research them beforehand you can be the tourist guide to the children and that can be a great way of bonding with them.

Lastly, of course, there are conventional modern shops to purchase your needs, and with pleasure.

For evening entertainment, there is the Johnny Mercer Centennial for starters. Johnny Mercer is noted for his music, songwriting talent, creativity and appeal, and of course because he was a local son. The year 2009 has been dedicated to the celebration of his music and legend and periodically, there will be events to be held in his name.

Next is the “All You Need is Love” event that began February 9. The festival celebrates the love songs of the past 60 years in the genres of jazz, pop music and Broadway, performed by orchestras, singers and dancers. Another festival that will last up to April 15 collects famous music performers in fields of jazz, bluegrass, blues, classical and gospel music. At the very least, the festivals can introduce the children to new sounds beyond mere rock and rock ‘n roll.

So do not forget the children when planning your next vacation. Make it Savannah, Georgia and you’ll be sure to have a grand time there.

Saving Money on Your Trip to Orlando

Orlando, Florida is one of the most popular vacations to take as a family. For children, there are just tons of attractions, theme parks, and activities to enjoy. The fact that the weather is warm and the excitement is palpable just adds to the exhilaration that the kids feel when getting to Orlando. Many people just assume that Orlando can be expensive though, but there are so many discounts that you can find there, that even a family of four can travel inexpensively.

The best place to start when planning a trip to Orlando is to contact the Orlando Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. They offer many discount tickets and information on hotels, vacation packages, attractions, and restaurants. They sometimes offer what is known as the “Magicard” which allows the up to six members of your family to receive discounts in Orlando and the surrounding areas. This includes attractions, meals, hotels, and even child care. In some instances, the prices are almost half of what they would be normally without the Magicard. By simply going to the CVB website, you can print your ticket and start saving immediately. Just keep in mind that there are some blackout periods which are usually holidays and the most popular times to visit such as school vacations. You can usually find out if it is eligible when you mention the card when making reservations.

The CVB allows you to see all the attractions and hotels that Orlando offers. You can buy your multi-park hopper passes, and other packages if you are interested in more than just one theme park, because in Orlando alone there are about 12 parks to choose from. The best thing about the CVB is that they have an official travel counselor standing by if you need answers to any of your most common questions regarding specific attractions, hotels, and events that are going on in the Orlando area. They are a wealth of information, and you should definitely take advantage of their knowledge of the area.

Just by researching the Internet you can find discounts on five or seven day hopper passes which can save you a lot of money. Tickets, when bought at the park, can average up to $72.00 per day if bought separately, whereas there are many deals on the Internet that will have you pay only about $32.00 per day on average when you buy a five or seven day ticket.

Don’t forget, that on some travel websites such as Orbitz and Expedia, you can combine your airfare, hotel, and attractions to get a better price. Although occasionally it can be less expensive to purchase everything separately, you may be able to get a better discount when you purchase it all together. If you still haven’t found an inexpensive way to visit Orlando, try talking to a travel agent who often has deals that can’t be found elsewhere. Going to Orlando doesn’t have to break the bank, if you know how to find the best deals.

It has mini-parks —Parrot Paradise, L’Aquarium de Louisienne, The Otter Pond— that showcase specific animal environments, while the Kids’ Zoo gives children hands-on opportunities with tamed animals and time in the playground.

Meanwhile, a walking tour of the 14-acre Hilltop Arboretum will give the visitor endless reviews of plants and gardens, including the bamboo grove and tree canopies, reached via winding walkways that go through organic displays and exhibits of flora.

Baton Rouge’s Historical landmarks

First interesting landmark is Louisiana’s State Capitol, which renders honors to the Patriots and Pioneers, groups that served the state in their days. The capitol is rendered in marble and limestone inside and out, and has its own story to tell.

The second landmark of interest is the Louisiana State University, which has its own museums, the LSU Museum of Art and the LSU Rural Life Museum. The first contains exhibits of English and American art collections of the 19th century, including paintings in watercolor and oil, lighting devices, prints, original artworks, and many others. Meantime the second museum displays items of the different cultures that settled in the state, ranging from the prehistoric times to the 20th century.

Entertainment in Baton Rouge

Entertainment productions are held regularly at the Baton Rouge Little Theater, famous to visitors and tourists -and residents, too– as a must-see for local and national performers. The productions are showy and world-class in quality, a well-kept tradition in the house.

For the more conventional tourist, there are organized tours that may include the swamps, places of historical value, nature, modern structures, and the city in their itineraries. The Alligator Bayou Swamp Tour, for example, grants the tourist the opportunity to sample an actual bayou or swampland life, including the alligators, which are seen first-hand.

The Downtown and City Tour, meanwhile, is just that: a tour of the city in its modern complexity, but should include the old buildings and historical sites within the urban city limits. But the Bloomin’ Garden Tour can take you to a wonderland of flowers and plants, indigenous and exotic, of a hundred different species. It is a feast for the eyes and a rest for the soul, and an experience for the naturalist.

Indeed, Baton Rouge can offer the visitor and tourist a hundred various ways of experiencing and tasting Louisiana as well its Southern charm. So the next time you go South, drop by Baton Rouge, and experience the top Louisiana destinations then, here and now.
