How to Travel Safely When in Europe
You may have all your preparations in place for your trip to Europe; but how are you going to get from place to place when you actually get there. There are many options available for you when you get to Europe; taxis are readily available as are buses, trains and there is also the option of walking from place to place. Not all of these travel methods are safe however; and care should be taken when using them to keep you safe.
There may be pick pockets on public transport such as buses and trains; so always keep your pockets empty and keep everything in a closed bag and keep it close to your body. Also keep any valuables that you have close to you and hidden out of sight; you don’t want to advertise how much money you have or what is in your bag.
Walking is a great form of exercise and it can be a great way to take in the sights as you travel from place to place in Europe. However walking is not always safe for you to do. You may become lost and end up in dangerous part of the city in town that you are visiting. Becoming lost may also make you more vulnerable and you may start to panic.
Taxis are the safest way to travel, providing you are using a licensed taxi and the taxi driver has a name tag and a proper badge given to him by local councils. Some taxi drivers may charge you extra thinking that you won’t notice the difference, also keep up on the fares and make sure they are not fiddling you for more money. To ensure your safety always try and travel with more than one person.
The best way to travel around yourself without using taxis or public transport; is to hire a car when you get to your destination. You can hire cars from the airport or have them ready for you when you step off the plane. This way you can go wherever you like and whenever you like and you won’t have to worry about taking taxis and public transport. It will end up more expensive; but your overall safety is worth the extra cost.
When you hire a car for your trip in Europe; always make yourself familiar with the laws of driving in that country and be careful when driving in a foreign country. Ask your travel agents about any insurance you need for driving in Europe and anything that you need to know before starting. Also make sure that you will not pay any extra fees for hiring a car before you sign the dotted line.
Have a good map of the country, town or city that you are traveling to so that if you become lost you can easily find where you are going. Always study the map before you go there so that you’re already knowledgeable about the local areas.
