Experiencing an Alaska Bush Safari

When you think of safari, chances are you already have Africa in your mind. Granted, that is one of the most popular safaris in the world, but there is also amazing safari’s held in Alaska of all places. Although prices vary, many of the 3-day expeditions are priced around $3800 per person, or you could take a 5-day expedition for about $5800. An example of the 3-day expedition takes you around Anchorage where you will see the Harding Ice field, plenty of tide water glaciers, the Cordova fishing village, and the volcanoes of Katmai National Park. You will see many of Alaska’s own wildlife including the intimidating brown bear. If you extend your safari to the 5-day version, you will also visit Lake Clark National Park, the Kodiak Island’s rainforest, Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, and other museums. While this tour is equally wonderful, you will have the addition of being able to see some of the area’s active volcanoes which is a real treat.
A 5-day safari can also include more of the area’s national parks such as Katmai which is well known for the plethora of fish and brown bears. Denali, which is a whopping six million acres large, is something to behold as well for the true nature lovers. You can’t miss out on Kenai Fjord either which was established for the sole purpose of conserving the natural state of the glaciers in the area, as well as the coastal fjords and islands. You can’t forget to bring your camera on this 5-day safari because you will see more wildlife then you ever thought possible. You will learn about their habitats, mating rituals, and how they forage for food. Lodge accommodations as well as picnic lunches may be provided.
For the person who loves to fish, you may want to take a three to five day fishing trip, completely designed for your fishing desires. You can fish for any number of fish such as rainbow trout, arctic char, halibut, graying, and up to five different species of salmon.

AN ALASKA BUSH SAFARI!
Although the word “safari” does not usually come to mind when one thinks of Alaska, there are a number of Alaska Bush Safaris which can be an interesting and rewarding experience!
The three-day expedition, which is currently priced at $3750 per person, is a great beginning, and can be extended into the longer tours if you so desire. Beginning and ending in Anchorage, you will see the Harding Ice Field, tide water glaciers, the Cordova fishing village, and the volcanoes of Katmai National Park. The brown bears are plentiful in this area, so be sure to bring your camera!
If you choose the five-day expedition, your trip will also include visits to Lake Clark National Park, Wrangell- St. Elias National Park, the Kodiak Island’s rainforests, and museums. You will also have the chance to see the area’s active volcanoes. The $5789 per person cost of this expedition includes accomodations at some of Alaska’s best inns and wilderness lodges.
If you wish to extend your trip to the seven-day tour, you will also have two days of personal free time as well as being able to visit the “ghost town” of the Kennecott copper mine and abandoned mines.
If National Parks is your preference, you can have up to five days to explore the area’s national parks, which include the Katmai,which is most well-known for its fish and brown bears; Denali, which extends six million acres; Kenai Fjord, which was established to conserve the natural state of the glaciers, coastal fjords and islands; Wrangell St. Elias, which provides for climbing of its vast mountains and terrain; and Lake Clark, formed primarily to protect the habitats of its wildlife.
